Ultra Dry Diesel Explained
In an ideal world, diesel fuel would be free of contaminants and water as it makes its way throughout the journey to your tank. This is not always the case and you, the end user, can receive less than optimal quality fuel. Water resides not only in the tank bottom and dispersed throughout the fuel but has the potential to negatively impact the entire storage system. Fact is that new fuel delivered to you has been moved through many delivery tanks from the refinery and has been picking up particulate, bacteria and water throughout the journey to your tank. Of the various types of diesel fuel contaminates, water is the most detrimental. The single most effective housekeeping practice you can do is to get the water out and keep it out of your diesel fuel. The correlation between water content in fuel and contamination can’t be overstated.
There are different methods to remove contaminants and water that keep fuel clean and dry. No matter which system you use, testing is the only way to verify how clean your fuel truly is.

The military discovered long ago that clean, and especially dry fuel is critical for aviation jet fuel, commonly referred to as # 1 fuel oil. Fighter jets operate at high altitude with frigid temperatures. Any water in the fuel can form ice crystals. This occurring to aircraft in flight can cause fuel starvation leading to engine failure with catastrophic consequences.
This can also occur in commercial aviation. These industries understand and require ultra dry fuel for safety and have been using military specification water separation technology for over 20 years.
Not all fuel cleaning systems are created equal. SpinClean utilizes this “mil spec” (military specification) technology to deliver the same ultra dry fuel required by today’s military and commercial aviation. That’s why the SpinDri™ fuel cleaning system uses a 5 phase process:

-
Pump all fuel from the tank to a separate holding tank through our < 1 micron filters effectively removing all particulates.
-
Pump all fuel through our mil spec separator technology removing water, drying the fuel.
-
Inspect and rinse the empty tank bottom to remove all water sludge and bacteria.
-
Further dry and filter the fuel a second time with military spec water separator technology while returning the fuel back to your tank.
-
Extend fuel shelf life with an annual dose of commercial stabilizer.

At SpinClean, we believe in empowering our customers to manage their critical fuel storage by cleaning their fuel “ultra dry” and keeping it dry, period.
And now a word about the importance of Stabilizing the Fuel.
What is a Stabilizer and why do you need it?
The fifth part of our SpinClean process addresses the ongoing condition of the fuel in the weeks and months after cleaning.
As we are all aware, fuel cleanliness, condition and shelf life is of utmost importance for diesel generator performance and reliability over time but how can it be kept clean, fresh and always ready?
That’s where the addition of a fuel stabilizer becomes so important. Fuel has a shelf life and that can vary according to how fresh and clean the newly delivered fuel is and the conditions under which the fuel is stored. Fuel is continually exposed to air, heat and humidity. Stored fuel is heated and cooled during the course of a day. These fluctuations over time cause fuel to become oxidized and stale.

Fresh fuel is normally consumed in a vehicle within a few weeks so fuel stability and readiness are rarely a problem. Not so in the case of stand by emergency power generators where fuel can be stored for months and years making stability and usability serious issues.

In order to extend the life of the fuel and prevent the oxidation process we recommend an additional component be added to the fuel. By adding a fuel stabilizer as part of a fuel management best practices program that includes regular cleanings, stored diesel fuel viability is never in question.

Annual fuel stabilization is included with our Silver, Gold and Platinum fuel programs. Stabilizing the fuel as part of your fuel management program along with annual advanced lab testing ensures your fuel is always ready to power your diesel engine. An Advanced Lab Report is also your compliance record that states your fuel meets industry readiness and cleanliness standards.
At SpinClean, we are continually developing, testing and improving fuel cleaning, providing you with the latest, innovative cleaning technology. We don’t just clean your fuel; we ultra dry your fuel with the proven, measurable, verifiable SpinDri™ technology.
